Why I Recommend This Powerful Video on the Nuclear Threat — and Lama Yeshe’s Timeless Wisdom

I recently came across a YouTube video that I feel is incredibly important to share — especially in the times we’re living in today. The video features two public lectures given by Lama Yeshe in July 1983, where he addresses the fears and dangers of the First Nuclear Age during the Cold War.

Even though his talks were given decades ago, Lama Yeshe’s insights feel strikingly relevant today. In January 2007, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists moved the hands of the Doomsday Clock forward by two minutes, bringing it to just five minutes before midnight — a symbolic warning of how close humanity stands to potential catastrophe. One of the biggest reasons cited was the presence of more than 27,000 nuclear weapons around the world, 2,000 of which are ready to launch within minutes. As they stated at the time, "We stand at the brink of a Second Nuclear Age."

Hearing Lama Yeshe's compassionate, wise perspective on humanity’s fears and choices offers a kind of clarity and grounding that feels deeply needed right now. His message is not just about the threat of nuclear weapons, but about how fear, aggression, and ignorance on a global scale mirror the turmoil within our own minds. His call for greater awareness, responsibility, and inner peace speaks directly to our modern challenges, even as the outer circumstances have changed.

If you are looking for a meaningful, heartfelt teaching that connects personal transformation with global responsibility, I highly recommend taking the time to watch this video. Lama Yeshe’s words remind us that real change begins with understanding ourselves — and that from that understanding, a wiser, more compassionate world becomes possible.

You can watch the video here — and I hope it leaves you as inspired and reflective as it left me.
